Differences Between Hot Tub Filters
March 08/2020

Did you know that there are THOUSANDS of different hot tub filters on the market today?! If you thought hot tub filters were universal, unfortunately they are not. Every hot tub is customized with the perfect hot tub filter for proper operation – there is not another filter that can replace that model of filter. So how do you determine which hot tub filter you need? Read on!

It’s important to measure the length of the hot tub filter as well as the width of the top (and or bottom) of the filter to get an accurate measurement. This will allow us to compare sizes to find your perfect match! Take measurements of the hole size on the top and or bottom and not if the bottom of the filter has a standard hole, internal threads, or external threads.

Top and End Cap Style
There are many different styles of not only the top of the filter (whether it has a handle, a hole or is closed off and flat on the top) but also the bottom (whether it has a hole, hole with internal threads, or external threads.) This is very important to know however because otherwise it will not sit and or thread into place as it should.

Pleat Count
The perfect pleat count has been assigned to each hot tub model by the manufacture. This will insure that their system (pumps, heaters, and computer boards) will all function with the correct amount of flow. Hot tub filter pleat counts can range as long as 5 all the way up to 300 or beyond. It is common for most hot tubs to use a pleat count of anywhere between 20-50 sq feet. If your hot tub model should be run with a specific filter that is 20 sq ft and you instead try to replace it with a similar model in a 50 sq ft pleat count, more than likely your heater and pump systems are not going to be functioning properly and possibly wont kick on at all. It’s going to feel a restriction because there are SO many more pleats to pull water through than what the system is designed for. This same thing can also happen with the proper filter, when the filter becomes extremely dirty and needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Easiest Way…Bring it in!
It always works the best to take your hot tub filter out and bring it into us in a small bucket or trash can to prevent a mess in the car. That way we are able to see the design of the filter and can better match your filter up with the filters that we stock. At Aqua Palace, we stock over 60 models of filters – so there’s a good chance we might have yours instock! If not, we will have the filter to be able to measure it properly and find the correct filter number to order for you.
