Do you have to use chlorine in your swimming pool every day?
March 08/2020

Keeping a consistent chlorine level in your swimming pool is very important and will protect your swimmers as well as prevent your pool from looking murky. Do you have to check on your swimming pool every single day? Usually not. There are so ways to make life a lot easier, while maintaining a clear swimming pool!

Chlorine Floater
For ages, many have used chlorine floaters to keep the chlorine dissolved in their swimming pool. These floaters come in many different shapes and designs, but they all work in the same way. The floater is meant to move with the current around the pool and the current will help aid the erosion of the tablets. The downside with floaters is that they have to constantly be in the water, even when you are swimming and sometimes they don’t dissolve the chlorine at the best rate. Sometimes the chlorine will erode faster than needed, but a lot of times it will not add the proper amount to keep your chlorine level in the correct range. Both of these can be issues that lead to cloudy water or algae.
Chlorine in Skimmer
A better option is to place the chlorine tablets directly in your pool skimmer basket (not the pump pot basket). This will allow a more even distribution of the chlorine throughout the pool, over every ounce of water that is pulled through the skimmer. Not only do you not have to compete with a cute little floater while you are swimming, but it is a lot more efficient. You can easily open the skimmer lid and peek in and see when it is time to add another chlorine tablet. Don’t let the chlorine tablet get any smaller than a half dollar before placing another chlorine tablet in the skimmer.

Chlorine in Automatic feeder
The ultimate answer to easily maintaining your chlorine level in your swimming pool is to install an automatic feeder. This vessel unit goes after your filter system, just before the water goes back into the pool. The lid easily comes off and you stack chlorine tablets (no more than 6 tablets in the feeder at a time). You can then set the dial from 1-5 depending on how much chlorine you wish to dispense into the water at a time. You no longer have a floater to worry about or a chlorine tablet in the skimmer basket, it is all contained on the outside of the pool where the kids won’t be tempted to play with it while swimming. You can also walk away from the pool if you are going on vacation for up to 2 weeks at a time, without having to worry about running out of chlorine (weather depending as to how long the chlorine will last in the feeder). It is still recommended if you are going to be gone on vacation, to have someone come over and test the pool a couple times during the week as well as shock it once per week while you are away. This will insure that you come home to a sparkling clean pool without any issues!
