Why do my hot tub jets keeping popping out?
March 08/2020

The jets in your hot tub are a very important piece of relaxation while soaking in your hot tub. If they are missing and or broken, you will not receive the same therapeutic value during your hot tub experience. Find out what might have caused your jets to pop out below:

Calcium
In the Midwest (and many other places around the country) we see very high metal and mineral content in our water. Calcium, rust, iron, manganese, copper…you name it and it’s probably in your water. Calcium is the main mineral that can coat and deteriorate your hot tub components, including your jets, pumps, and heaters. When calcium builds up on your hot tub jets, it makes it incredibly hard to turn them and can cause them to crack. Once the jet bodies are cracked or missing a clip, the jet will not stay in place until it is replaced.  The best way to prevent this issue in the future is to always use a metal and stain remover when refilling your hot tub. This product will protect the metals and minerals, like calcium, that are in your water and prevent them from being so corrosive. If you currently use a metal remover, it is important to increase the dosage that you are using to eliminate this problem.

Improper Chemical Levels
It is very important to keep your sanitizer and pH levels in the proper ranges at all times for many reasons, but one reason is to preserve the life of your hot tub jets. If your pH levels are high, it can cause more calcium to form on the backside of your jets, causing them to become brittle with time. If your pH level is too low, the water is very acidic and will start to eat away at the jets, making them extremely brittle. High sanitizer levels can also be very corrosive and cause jet failures prematurely, as well as motor, heater, pressure switch, and other mechanical failures. Make sure to properly test your hot tub on a regular basis (recommended: daily or every other day) to prevent further damage.

Age
Unfortunately, with age, the plastic body of the jets get brittle and break down over time due to the heat, chemicals and metals in your water. Hot tub jets are items that must be replaced overtime. Let’s be honest, they really do get a work out every time you take a soak to relax!

If you are maintaining your hot tub and water chemistry correctly, you will inevitably get the longest life out of all your components in your hot tub. Prevention is key!
