Spring Opening of Your Above Ground Pool
It’s what we’ve been eagerly awaiting since we last basked in the warm weather and longer daylight hours… to take that winter cover off our swimming pool and start enjoying the water! Getting your pool ready the right way now will pay off in dividends of problem-free swim time this summer. Here are the proper steps to opening your Splash and metal-wall above ground swimming pools.
Splash pools
Splash makes the soft-side pools able to stay up year-round, including the cold winter. So in spring you simply remove the cover and follow a few procedures to jump in clean, clear water.
- When pulling the winter cover off, be sure to wrap the corners so they don’t provide a channel for dirty water and debris to end up in the pool. You could use a pump or vacuum to get rid of excess leaves and water before taking off the cover.
- Make sure your pool water level is above the white band of the pool. If not, get the hose out and add some water.
- Hook up your pump and filter system then re-install the skimmer system, heater hoses and auto chlorinator. Remove all freeze plugs put in for the winter.
- Once the pump is running it’s best to do a quick backwash for about three minutes to clean out any dirt and debris from sand filter that may been in there over winter.
- Add one quart bottle of Sequa Sol for the metal and calcium control and let circulate for 24 hours before adding any other chemicals, i.e. ph adjusters, chlorine, or shock.
- After the 24 hours, add a chlorine tablet to your skimmer basket and adjust you PH if needed.
- In one week, shock your pool with the recommended amounts for your size pool.
Metal Wall Pools
- For metal wall pools, drain water off the winter cover with a vacuum or pump. As you remove the cover, fold the corners towards the middle to prevent the water or debris from dumping into the pool.
- Re-install your skimmer system, pump and filter system as well as all heater connections and your auto chlorinator.
- Replenish the pool with fresh water to bring the water level half-way up the skimmer.
- When the water level is at the right level, turn on the pump and do a quick backwash for about three minutes to flush out any debris still in the system.
- Add one quart of Sequa Sol for the metal and calcium control and let circulate for 24 hours before adding other chemicals.
- After 24 hours, add a chlorine tablet to your skimmer basket and adjust the PH levels as needed.
- One week later, apply shock to your pool.
