Why It’s Important to Replace your Hot Tub Cover before Fall!
March 14/2020

Have you noticed that your hot tub cover is looking a little shabby this summer? Wondering how you truly know when it’s ready to be replaced? We’ve got the answers for you and why you need to look at replacing your hot tub cover before the Omaha fall kicks in!

It’s Cracked
A very good indication that your hot tub cover will need to be replaced is if you are starting to see cracking. It will normally start as small indentions in the foam that are lower than the rest of the cover. As time goes on these will start to increase in length and width and will cause an actual crack to form thru the material of the cover.  A protectant can be used on top of the cover such as 303 Cover Cleaner which will protect your new cover from the harmful sunrays that we get in Omaha throughout the year, which can cause this to occur with time. Use it on a monthly basis to keep the cover looking new and clean and protected!

It’s Heavy
If you have to use your hot tub to relieve the stress in your arms and back just from opening your hot tub cover, then you are way pasted due for a new one my friend! As hot tub covers age, the plastic barrier that encloses the foam will start to deteriorate and cause water weight to begin to collect inside the foam itself. This will cause the hot tub cover to become extremely heavy, sometimes even up to 6 times its original weight brand new. This can put extra strain on you (and your back) as well as your cover lift, which can only hold a certain amount of weight before it will begin to bow and break, which could cause damage to your hot tub skirt.

It’s costing more to run
If you are noticing a huge difference on your electric bill each month then what is normal, it is a very good indication that your hot tub no longer has the “R value” (heat retention value) that is needed to maintain the heat inside the spa, due to the poor condition of the hot tub cover. This will cost you unsightly electric bills and leave you scratching your head as to why they keep increasing! It’s best to get your cover replaced before fall because as the temperatures decrease, your electric bill will only increase due to the quality of your current hot tub cover!

Most hot tub covers will last approximately 5-7 years, depending on the manufacture of spa cover and the quality of how it was manufactured. Not all hot tub covers are constructed the same, so you will get what you pay for! Making sure that you keep your hot tub cover open for at least 15 mins each time you add chemicals such as shocks and chlorines will prevent additional damage to the cover which will shorten the lifespan of them. Protecting it monthly with 303 Cleaner will also prolong the life of your new cover!
