Your jets are turning brown, but the water is clear, what is the issue? These are all questions that we get on a regular basis. The reason for all of these problems is simple….METALS! Here’s how to prevent these issues in the future and prevent damage to your Omaha hot tub as soon as possible!
Our water in the Council Bluffs/Omaha metro area is very saturated with metals such as calcium, iron, manganese, and rust. If these metals are not protected, they can cause a lot of damage to your the components and even the shell of your hot tub! How to do You Keep Metals to a Minimum in Your Marquis Spa?
Adding a metal protectant with every refill of your Marquis spa is extremely important. There are natural metals throughout our water source, many of which are GOOD for the spa equipment, in small doses. Unfortunately, the issue that we have with most of our water source is we have an abundance of bad metals in our water. In large amounts, these metals become a BIG issue.
Calcium in a high dose will cause the inside of your Marquis spa shell to calcify and feel almost like sandpaper. It is a very uncomfortable problem and usually at that point can’t be fixed unless the spa is drained, scrubbed, and refilled with the correct amount of metal protectant. The calcium will also build up on your pump seals and heaters and will cause them to corrode and leak. But calcium is only one of the metals that we have to worry about in our water. Rust as well as iron are just as big of an issue. The metals will cause discoloration of the inside of your hot tub, the plumbing lines, and jets can start to build up rust deposits on your equipment!

Protect Your Marquis Spa Against Metals!
With our hard water, we recommend adding a much higher dosage of the metal protectant than what it shows on the back of the bottle, because in the Midwest our water is extremely hard, no matter if you are in the city or in the country. There are, however, pockets of water that some hot tubs require an even larger dose, or possibly a swimming pool strength metal protectant! Adding the correct amount of metal protectant for your specific water source conditions will protect against all of these issues.
The only other time you should have to add a metal protectant throughout the fill of your Marquis spa, is when you add some additional makeup water to your hot tub. Instead of adding a full bottle of the metal protectant like you do upon a new fill, normally we would recommend 1/4 of a bottle or so for several inches of makeup water.
