Hot Tub Water Chemistry Tip 2 - Maintain Proper Sanitation Level
March 15/2020

“My spa water is clear so the sanitizer level must be good, right?” “I was told my spa is a chemical free system, so I don't use any sanitizer.” While maintaining a hot tub doesn't require a degree in chemistry, there are a few simple things to remember:

Top 7 Tips for Maintaining Proper Sanitizer Level in Your Hot Tub

The best time to add sanitizer is AFTER each use of the hot tub in preparation for your next use – never add sanitizer right before you use it. If your sanitizer level (chlorine or bromine) is not high enough, you should refrain from using the spa until it is in the correct range.

Soaking in water that is not properly sanitized can cause rashes and you can pass bacteria between users or contract something from the water.
By adding sanitizer to the water after you exit the spa, you kill more of the fresh bacteria you just added to the water. This will keep that bacteria from rapidly multiplying overnight, keeping your spa water cleaner.

By doing a simple check the next morning, you will be able to adjust the sanitizer level if needed and can then rest assured that the spa will be ready for use again that night!
If your sanitizer level is low, don't add it right before getting in. You don’t want to sit in a highly concentrated sanitizer level that was just added!
At Aqua Palace Spa and Pool, we recommend adding your sanitizer and wanting several hours to test and then at that time if the level is okay, you can get in.
Always remember to add sanitizer after exiting spa and account for how many people were using the spa during that soak.

Maintain Clarity in Your Water!
Keeping the proper sanitation level in your spa is the way you can maintain clear water and keep bacteria at bay! Unlike bath tubs that are drained after each use, disposing of the bacteria that was left and therefore no chemicals have to be maintained in it, a hot tubs water is kept for 3-4 months. If sanitizer is not being added in the appropriate amounts and often enough, you can imagine what a bath tub full of water after a few uses would look like after a month of no sanitizer! We are able to keep the water in our hot tubs in that long only if the water has been properly maintained!
