Benefits A Hot Tub Brings During Pregnancy – Speaking From Experience!
March 14/2020 I thought I would make a more personal blog about the benefits I have seen first-hand while using my hot tub on a regular basis during my pregnancy! Not that I have ever doubted the powerful effects a hot tub can have on anyone’s everyday life, but I have become a far bigger believer during this pregnancy than ever before!
Weight is lifted from my shoulders –
At the beginning of our pregnancy, we discussed with our midwife the idea of still being able to use the hot tub on a regular basis during pregnancy and if it was recommended. Although we asked with eager ears, we were also afraid of the harsh comments that we might receive back instead. However, with a smile on her face, the midwife exclaimed that it would provide many benefits when used in the right circumstances and to go for it. We were elated! Not only is the “hot tub world” our whole life, but it’s something we are very passionate about because we see the benefits each and every day, from our own personal lives and also from our customers. We had a little extra skip in our walk that day after our appointment to say the least! The parameters that I have found most comfortable is to leave the temperature around 98-99 degrees (yes, even in the winter time!) and to use the hot tub for no longer than 30 mins at a time. It’s also important to take something to drink with you while you are in the hot tub, to keep your body hydrated (as well as the baby!)
Buoyancy is a Blessing –
The initial weightlessness that you feel when you first enter the water, on top of the heat of the water is almost euphoric! Being able to float around without any restrictions on your body while it is under serious “construction” is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I was able to do exercises that I would not have been able to conquer on “land” while pregnant…especially during the last few months!
Massage Like No Other –
At random times I had severe leg cramps, only occurring in my right leg. I was able to massage it out enough to walk down stairs and get into the hot tub, to be able to alleviate the rest of the kink. The tension that can be released on every area of your body, including your back, by a hot tub is like no other. The beauty of restful sleep that the hot tub provided me, night after night, my entire pregnancy is a gift sent from heaven. The nights that I didn’t use the hot tub, were the nights that I tossed and turned all night, starring at the clock. I’m not sure I would have been able to enjoy my pregnancy like I have if I was unable to enjoy the relaxing benefits of my Marquis hot tub!
My Philosophy –
So I might not be a doctor, but I do have a personal philosophy when it comes to pregnancy, birth, and hot water. Going thru a midwife was important to me and to my husband for many reasons. Being in this industry and knowing the benefits that a non-invasive approach, such as using a hot tub on a regular basis for pain relief, management and overall health can provide you….we wanted our daughter’s birth to simulate that. We chose a midwife instead of a traditional doctor and hospital because we are lead to the non-invasive version of life when it is available to us. Hot water therapy can be such a key part of letting go of pain, tension, and fear and we wanted to experience that. We had the availability to have a water birth if we so chose and I was able to use the hot tub at home comfortably while I was laboring. I am a bigger believer than ever before of the many benefits of hot tubbing!
