How long should you stay in your hot tub?

The answer to this question will depend on your age! Children should only be in the hot tub for short periods (less than 10 mins) with the temperature at or slightly below normal body temperature. It is important that children do not soak in a hot tub that is over 99 degrees for many reasons. Please talk with your child's pediatrician if your child has any additional health concerns before allowing them to enjoy the hot tub. They should always be supervised with an adult in the tub with them.

For adults, it can vary as well. If you are in good health with no high blood pressure and are not at risk for a heart attack or stroke, you can safely use the hot tub up to an hour at a time, with periods of sitting in the highest elevated cool-down seat in your hot tub. This allows your heart to be above the water level and allows your body to cool itself down. It is recommended to do this after 15 mins of soaking, for apprx. 5-10 mins, before moving to a lower chair.

If you have any heart conditions, it would be recommended to not keep the hot tub over 101 degrees (or less if recommended by a physician) and to keep your duration to 15-20 mins per use. Specific directions may be required from your physician to insure safety.

It is never recommended to drink alcohol while soaking in the hot tub, at any temperature or duration. Alcohol opens your blood vessels and will allow the alcohol to travel faster thru your blood stream than normal, which can make you very dizzy, can cause fainting, which all could lead to drowning.
