Removal and Re-Installation of a Metal Wall Swimming Pool
March 15/2020 There are various situations that come up that may warrant a customer questioning whether or not they are able to take down a metal wall pool and set it up again later.
Several variables come into play regarding this inquiry that should be considered prior to making the decision to take down the pool.
First, the quality of the pool. Less expensive pool walls will be thinner. They have a tendency to bend, dent, as well as rust. All these conditions can lead to additional issues when trying to set the pool wall back up again. Higher quality pools may have thicker walls, resin coatings or rust inhibitors that may make it a little easier to reinstall.
Second, the age of the pool. Obviously, the older the pool the more chance there is for deterioration such as rust to have set in.
Third, the wall is held together with many bolts. Again, time can cause issues with rusting making the bolts hard to get out, stripping the threads or issues in getting the holes realigned when assembling the pool wall again.
Last, the pool liner will need to be replaced. Once an installed liner is left to dry it can shrink causing it to not reinstall properly. Depending on age, chemical damage to the liner can make it brittle which would also cause it to need to be replaced. Depending on the size of pool, this can be several hundred dollars to replace.
One scenario we see often is that a neighbor or friend has a metal wall pool they are “giving away”, all you have to do is take it down and move it yourself. As you can see, that “free pool” may not be the blessing of backyard fun you anticipated!
