Specialty Pool Store Differences: How to Save Money and Time
March 15/2020 Have you ever thought about what the differences might be when purchasing specialty items from a big box store vs buying it from a company that specializes in that product? For an example, you can purchase tires from your local Wal-Mart store, but what’s the difference between purchasing them there or at a local car repair center? It is the same when you are looking at a pool or hot tub; there is more to be offered from a specialty store that only deals with that specific industry, rather than a big box store that dabbles in everything. Here are the differences that you will find between a specialty store and a big box store…
Difference in Quality
Unfortunately if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. You won’t be purchasing the same product at a big box store for less money than where you found it originally at a specific specialty store. Any of the pools and or quick set hot tubs that these big box stores carry, including all of their accessories and chemicals, are not the same strength or quality of what a professional pool and spa retail store would provide you. This does mean spending more up front occasionally, but you will be saving yourself a lot of headaches and avoiding a lot of big mistakes when it comes to the damage that those products can have on your pool, liner, and pump and filter system. These products are not an equal comparison at a lower price…they are usually foreign knock offs of similar products that are being sold at a much lower strength and therefore cost less. By purchasing chemicals that have a strength of 20% vs professional grade products from a pool and spa retailer which is 99% will cost you a lot more money in the long run and you might not even realize it. So what do they use to make up the extra 80% that’s listed as “other ingredients”? They use filler materials, such as detergents, to increase the “consistency” of their product. This is where the trouble will begin. These extra ingredients are not pool friendly and will begin to deteriorate your pool and filter system very quickly, while leaving your pool water with many more problems, such as cloudiness and foam, than you originally started with. This is just one reason to stay with a local professional.
Difference in Service
Big box stores are not big on customer service because they are unable to service what they sell in the field. If you purchase an inexpensive pool from a big box store, get it set up only to discover that something was not manufactured correctly, or that something just isn’t working right, they are not a phone call away to set up a service call to come assist you. If you were to call back to the big box store that you originally purchased it from, more than likely they will tell you to contact the manufacture directly. These manufactures are mainly overseas and you will be put on hold for hours before getting a possible solution to your problem. We value you as a customer and make service after the sale a priority. If there is ever anything that you need, you are able to call in and speak directly with one of our team members who will be able to assist you with any questions or issues that may arise. We can also set up a service call to come out and do routine maintenance on your pool as the years go on as well. This is something you will sacrifice if you don’t purchase thru a professional pool and spa retail store.
