Tips to keep your swimming pool clear while on vacation!
March 08/2020 Vacations can be so much fun and are definitely needs for every family from time to time! However, what do you do with your pool in the summer when going on a family vacation so it doesn’t turn green on you? There are several important steps (and products!) that insure your pool will enjoy its vacation, while you enjoy yours!
Leave someone in charge
It is important to have a neighbor or another family member come by at least twice a week while you are gone, to add several products to the pool to keep it well maintained. Before you leave, bring them over and show them these couple of important things:
If you are on a chlorine system, you can add on an automatic chlorinator prior to leaving very easily. This allows you to fill up the chlorinator with up to 2 weeks worth of chlorine tablets and simply dial in the perfect amount. Adjusting your dial between 1-5 will allow the proper amount of sanitizer to constantly be fed into the water while you are gone. This will make it very easy for the person checking on the pool to add tablets less often and will give you more peace of mind. An automatic chlorinator is not extremely expensive and is still VERY beneficial even when you return home, as it allows you a few additional days before having to add additional chlorine.

- How to turn off/on the filter system.
- How to see if the filter needs backwashed or clean – show them how this is done.
- How to test the water using your test strips or test kit – show them the correct ranges.

- Show them where skimmer and pump baskets are and show them how to clean them.

Toss in your pool cleaner and let it clean the pool continually for you! Avoiding debris in the bottom of the pool will greatly increase your chance of returning to a clear and very clean pool with little chance for algae if chemicals have been properly maintained! Leaves and other debris are food for algae to feed on, so if they were to sit there until you returned from vacation, you might have an algae issue! Who doesn’t love the sound of never having to vacuum their pool again too!? It’s a win-win!
