What do I put under my above-ground swimming pool?
March 13/2020

The foundation of the above-ground pool is very important to maintaining a comfortable feel, and also maintaining a solid structure for years to come.  Many individuals use sand as a basic foundation; however rain and channeling water will cause both wash-out and gives no barrier from ruts surfacing from the bottom.  At Aqua Palace, we recommend the use of 1 ½ inch foam on our soft sided pools, which can be purchased at many home-improvement stores.  This foam will not compress under the weight of the water, giving not only a soft feel on the bottom, but give you a barrier between the liner and the ground.  Placing the pool on this foam on solid level ground will improve one’s overall pool experience for years to come.

For metal wall pools, we recommend a specialty 1/4 inch foam that is designed to be placed under the pool liner and also on the pool wall to protect the delicate liner from the ground and any protrusions that may occur over time. By adding the foam to the wall, creating a barrier between the pool liner and the steel wall structure, it will help to prolong the life of your pool liner for much longer. We would also recommend using a pool cove, which is placed at the bottom of the pool prior to placing the liner in, to give a natural angled curve to the liner as it comes down the wall and meets the floor.
