What is the difference between 110v & 220v hot tubs?
March 08/2020

We get this question a lot, so we are going to explain some of the differences between the two so you can decide what’s best for you!

Hot tubs that are 110v will plug into a standard outlet with no other electrical action required! We like to call these units “Plug and Play” because well they really are! On 110v hot tubs, you will not need to call an electrician out to run any additional wiring specifically for the hot tub to have power, which can definitely save you some money. You are restricted in the size of the hot tub with a 110v as well as how many jets and pumps the units has. Marquis Spas does offer several units that are available in 110v and can even be converted over later to 220v if you chose! You are unable to run the pumps on high speed and the heater to increase temperature at the same time on a 110v unit. With our Marquis Spas though, they are a very well built and insulated hot tub and you normally wont lose more than a degree or two during even the coldest Midwest night while you are soaking.

A large number of the hot tubs on the market require 220v. In order to get 220v service out to where the hot tub will be located, you will need to have a local licensed electrician come out and run the wiring and hang the GFCI box for all the wiring to connect to. We do have GFCI boxes on hand to make it easier for you if you wish to pick one up when you purchase your hot tub. Our GFCI breaker boxes come with a Lifetime Warranty, unlike any of the other boxes you will find on the market. With a 220v hot tub, we have the capacity for a larger unit with more jets and an addition of a second pump! You are able to have your pumps on while your heater is also on with a 220v (unlike a 110v hot tub).

Which to choose?
The choice is up to you! If you have an outlet within 6 feet of where you would like the hot tub placed, a 110v unit would be a convenient option! If you are looking for a larger hot tub with multiple pumps and a lot of jets, you will need to go with a 220v option. This is simply a personal preference! If you are needing an electrician to provide 220v service for your recent Marquis Spa purchase, we can definitely assist! We work with several local electricians that can take care of it for you!
