Aqua Palace hosts several CPO classes right here in the Omaha Metro each year! Our classes are held at our store location (810 Woodbury Ave in Council Bluffs, Iowa) with our owner Scott as the Certified CPO Instructor!
We Know Water!
After being in the pool and spa industry for over 20 years, we know how to properly care for your swimming pool or hot tub! Scott is also a CBP (Certified Pool Building Professional)! He not only can teach you how to properly care for your water, but he also custom designs commercial and residential pools and spas, engineers and also installs all of the projects himself! He is a one-stop-shop when it comes to all of your swimming pool and hot tub needs, from start to finish!
Is it required?
Having at least one CPO on staff IS required by the State across the United State for any public or semi-public facility! We always recommend at least 2 CPO’s on staff at each facility, so that the facility is always properly covered regardless of illnesses, vacation or shifts. To learn more, click here!
How does the course work?
We offer the Primer Course, which cuts down on the amount of time you have to spend in class and away from work. There is a portion of the course that must be completed ONLINE prior to the class date. This will go over 8 chapters of the CPO handbook that will not be discussed during the class date, to keep your time away at a minimum. The sooner you register, the more time you have to complete these 8 chapters at home, at your leisure. The remaining chapters of the handbook WILL be discussed during the actual class date (at our location). Depending on your skill level and previous knowledge and understanding of this industry, the online portion will take apprx 8-12 hours to complete.
How long is the class?
The typical class schedule is as follows:

- ]*>","")" style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Break for 1 hr for lunch around noon
- ]*>","")" style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Remaining chapters covered from 1 pm – 3:30 pm
- ]*>","")" style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Testing begins at 3:30 pm and ends around 5:30 pm
How long is my CPO certification good for?
Your CPO Certificate is valid for 5 years. After 5 years, you must complete the course in its entirety again for it to be valid. Yearly continuing education is also required every year to keep your CPO certificate active. We DO provide yearly continuing education as well!
This certification IS recognized Nationally and Internationally and is good in every state in the US.
What if I don’t pass the exam?
If you do not initially pass the exam the first time, you will be offered a chance to retake the test within a short time span. We highly encourage you to restudy the material and schedule a time to come back in within a few days to retake the exam. There is an additional fee to retest and is due the day of retesting.
How long does it take to receive my certificate?
You will receive a package with your certificate directly from the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance, usually within 2 weeks from the course date. The exams do have to be mailed in directly to PHTA for review and then they will approve and send out certificates. You will receive an email within the first week with an e-copy of your certificate, in case you need it immediately.
How long has Scott been an instructor?
He has been a CPO Instructor since 2003! Over 17 years of providing quality and in-depth training on how to properly care for swimming pools and hot tubs in our community!
