Hot Tub Water Chemistry Tip 9 Don't Wash Your Suits!
March 15/2020

Have you ever gotten in your spa and as soon as you turn on the jets all you can see is a sea of foam? The first thing that might come to mind is, “Are my chemicals off? How did they get off? I know they were perfect yesterday!” Although chemicals do have a lot to do with the water quality and even preventing foam, the number one foam issue is caused by your bathing suits!

Do You Wash Your Suits?
Most of the time the answer is “Yes”. This is the cause of a lot of foam in the water. It is highly recommended to not wash your hot tubs bathing suites! This is the cause of a lot of foam in the water. Washing your suites even just one time over the course of the 3-4 months can cause a lot of foam, even a small amount, less than 1 tsp, of detergent or fabric softener remaining on your suit can cause several inches of foam on the surface of the spa. This will in turn make your water cloudy or milky looking. If you are keeping your chemical levels in the proper ranges, there is enough sanitizer in the spa to keep your suits sanitized without washing them, simply just hang them up to dry when you are done and they will be ready time and time again for your next soak! Once foam has started in the hot tub, you can’t really get it out, you can just make it more manageable with a Foam Out product such as Marquis Spas Spa Defoamer.

Keep Foam Out!
Foam is one of those cool things that kids like to have in their bath, along with all of their other toys. But foam in your spa is very frustrating and evil thing! It not only makes your water look dully and it won’t sparkle like it always does, but it will linger for a long time until the water has been drained. It’s amazing to think that just a very small amount of soap residue can cause such a huge issue in the spa but it does! This is caused from the agitation of the jets, just like in your washing machine, where the clothes are rotated around and tumbled in the suds to make sure that it is coated well. Although you don’t have clothes tumbling around in your hot tub, the rest of the scenario still applies and can make a total mess very quickly!

TIP: We would recommend setting up a specific rack or area where all of your family can hang their towels and swimsuits to dry, so they are ready for the next use!
