110V Hot Tub Vs. 240V Hot Tub: Which is Better?
March 14/2020

Hot Tub Voltage: Are 110V Hot Tubs Better Than 240V Hot Tubs?

On a 110v hot tub, you can use an existing standard outlet. These cords are usually 8 ft – 15 ft in length, which allow for plenty of room to place the hot tub where you prefer and still be able to access an outlet. There is no additional wiring that has to be completed or any GFCI box that must be installed prior to hooking up a 110v hot tub. These units are called “plug and plays” because you can easily hook them up anywhere with no hassle!

On a 240v hot tub, additional wiring will be needed by a licensed electrician prior to delivery of your new hot tub. A 50amp GFCI breaker box will need to be installed minimum of 6 ft away from the hot tub, but where it is accessible from the outside of the house.  Aqua Palace does have 50 amp breaker boxes with Lifetime Warranties on them. There are specific specs that need to be followed by your electrician to insure that wiring is done correctly prior to connecting the hot tub. The benefit of having a hot tub on 240v is the fact that your pump and heater will be able to operate simultaneously. On a 110v unit, the heater will not be able to come on if the pumps are in use. On a 240v unit, your heat recovery, especially in the winter time, is far greater and you are able to keep the hot tub at a more consistent temperature even when in use!

When purchasing a Marquis hot tub from Aqua Palace, a wiring spec sheet will be provided if purchasing a 240v unit! Simply hand it to your electrician and call us when you are ready for delivery – it’s that easy!
