While a new spa comes with all the new components and brand new warranty, a slightly pre-owned hot tub can be a great choice as well! Buying a pre-owned spa from a private owner might cause a few concerns though. Odds are, you might not know the owner. You don’t know what has been done or who has been in the tub previously. Is the tub owned by a couple that only used it for themselves, or owned by people that have a hot tub party every other night? How well has the tub been taken care of? Have the previous owners kept up on the routine maintenance for the hot tub? Does the tub even run? And if it does run, did they just “bandaid” any problems? Also buying a pre-owned spa from a private seller comes with no warranty.

Odds are most of the major parts and components are from China or Mexico and will cost much more to maintain with high energy bills and excessive amounts of service calls to repair broken components on a regular basis. The shell of some competitors spas will normally be made out of an inexpensive acrylic material that will crack, peel and delaminate overtime (possibly even as soon as a year or two down the road!)
