Inground Pool Safety Winter Covers
March 18/2020

Are you in need of a new winter cover for your inground pool? We have many options to choose from and will help lay out the differences between them so you can make the best decision for you and your family!

Mesh Safety Covers
This type of cover is the most standard and basic cover that is available on the market for inground pools. These covers are made with polypropylene nylon webbing and the cover is secured to the concrete deck with stainless steel springs and brass anchors. These covers are very lightweight but extremely strong. Most pool owners like these covers because all the water absorbs thru the cover back into the pool, making it easy to remove the winter cover in the spring with no excessive water weight. The one thing to keep in mind on this type of cover is that a lot of debris along with all of the mucky water will go back into your pool and you will more than likely have to tend to a swamp in the spring.

Solid Safety Covers
One of the most preferred safety covers to use is a solid cover. These covers are made of a tightly webbed polypropylene material that allows the water to stay on top of the cover, preventing it from entering the pool at all. Sunlight will be eliminated from entering the pool which will prevent bacteria from forming and will help to keep your pool water squeaky clean till the spring. These covers are made with either a mesh drain panel in the middle to allow some of the water to drain back into the pool to release the weight that pools on top of the cover or you can also order these covers with automatic cover pumps. These pumps, which plug in to a standard outlet or extension cord, will allow the water to be pumped off into the yard instead of into the pool. The beauty about the cover pumps is they are automatic, so you can leave them out on the cover once the Omaha temperatures have warmed up enough to melt the snow and then the pump will kick on and off as needed to remove the water. That way there is no fear in burning up the cover pump!

Defender Mesh Safety Covers
Another form of a mesh cover is the defender mesh. It has all the same durability and quality as a standard mesh cover, but the weave of the material is much tighter, which prevents sunlight from penetrating thru the material and therefore causing algae to form. If you would prefer all of the benefits of a mesh cover with the ease of removal, lightweight design, no water pooling, and no algae forming then this is the cover for you!

Inground Auto Covers
Taking it one step further, an auto cover will serve you throughout the entire summer as well as the winter! To operate these covers, all you have to do is enter your specific key code and the cover will automatically open and close within seconds to keep your pool clean and secure! After you’re done with your late night swim, simply close the cover to prevent any debris and or rain water from entering the pool! This cover is durable enough that you can walk out across it if need be with no issues! An automatic cover pump is also used on all automatic pool covers to get rid of the standing water to prevent too much tension, which could cause damage to the motors and equipment of the auto cover. If you are looking for true safety, innovation and technology, an auto cover is the best fit for you and your family!

All of these covers are classified as Safety Covers which means that they are able to withstand the weight of somebody standing in the middle of the cover once they are properly anchored.

Any standing water on any inground pool cover poses a safety concern and could entrap small children or animals. To prevent drowning, water will need to be kept off the winter cover and children or pets will need to be supervised when out in the backyard.
