What temperature should a hot tub be set at?
March 08/2020

This is always a top question by many new hot tub owners and the short answer is, everyone is different. Almost all hot tub manufactures allow you to adjust the temperature between 85 degrees and 104 degrees. It’s best to start around 100 degrees and adjust up or down as you desire.

There’s a Big Difference between 100 and 104
It is true, there is a BIG difference in how hot the water is and how comfortable you are in the water between 100 degrees and 104 degrees. You wouldn’t think that just a few degrees really makes that much difference, but it sure does! When you are fully submerging the majority of your body in the water, an extra degree or two will be noticeable rather quickly.

What happens if it’s too hot?
If the water temperature is too hot for you, it will be very uncomfortable. You definitely will want to shorten the length of time you soak in your hot tub if the water is simply too hot. Even in the middle of winter, it could take 30 minutes or more to cool the water off several degrees (and sometimes longer than that in a Marquis Spa because they are SO well insulated!) If you feel uncomfortable and if it’s simply too warm, we recommend turning down the temperature and hopping out until a later time when the temperature has come down slightly.

What is the preferred length of time to soak in the hot tub?
Again this differs, however we usually say between 15 and 30 mins. If you have children that are using the hot tub with you, we recommend to keep the temperature closer to the 100 to 101 for their safety. Children should only soak for 10-15 min periods of time before they need to get out and take a break to cool off. Children’s body temperatures rise faster than most adults and that can cause them to overheat much easier.

Our best philosophy is TRY IT OUT! If you don’t like 103 degrees, kick it down to 102 degrees and try that for awhile! You will find the perfect temperature for you and your family once you test the waters a bit!
